Western Cape Townships

You could live a lifetime in Cape Town, and never go to Guguletu township. Though only 12 miles from the city center, most South African only see Guguletu from the safety of a car traveling along the highways leading to Cape towns beaches. Despite the desperation and harsh reality of the townships, the willingness of township dwellers, and the need to share their stories with other people is what shows their determination to change life for their children.

Cape Town townships are as vibrant as any of the other townships in South Africa. Tourists are bussed in every day to experience the culture and the daily lives of the majority of markets, where they can purchase hand made crafts at a good price, or restaurants, shebeens, schools, traditional opportunity to interact with the locals.

For those who are looking for more than just a bus view of the townships, use a reputable tour operator recognized by Cape Town Tourism such as: Thuthuka Tours: townshipcrawling@excite.com
