One of the most significant developments in the backpacking industry in South Africa has to the Baz Bus. Specially designed for budget travelers and backpackers, Baz Bus picks you up and drops you off at any of the backpacker’s hostels or lodges of your choice around the country.
The way ticketing works is simple, and aimed a maximum flexibility. Unlike the regular intercity buses, passengers simply buy one ticket to their final destination and can “hop-on, hop-off” wherever and as many times as they like, with no time limit!
Now in its 8th year of operation, Baz Bus has become the largest transport network for independent travelers in South Africa. With its regular schedule and onboard information about all the exciting adventures on-route, it is a great way to get around and meet other like-minded travelers.
The ticket can be bought for a part of the route or the whole direct route. The route runs in each direction between Cape Town and Johannesburg/Pretoria.
From Durban, passengers have a choice of traveling wither via the Drakensberg Mountains or Swaziland. Stops at hostels along the way are pre-arranged by telephonic booking and include places like Cintsa and St. Lucia. Shuttles provide links to our of the way places which include Lesotho and Mozambique.
On most routes, 19 seater semi-luxury Mercedes Benz Sprinter buses are used, all with on-board TV & videos, and with trailers capable of carrying surfboards and bicycles, space is no problem.
