On 19 January 2003, Baz Bus celebrated our seventh birthday with a weekend of festivities. Colleagues and agents from all over South Africa as well as the UK joined us in making this day a truly memorable event!
To begin the proceedings, Baz Bus invited backpackers and guests to visit a local community charity, namely 'Ons Plek' children's shelter for homeless girls. Barry Zeidel, owner of Baz Bus, presented deputy director, Rene Rossouw, with a cheque for R10 000 in an effort to help them revamp their premises after a fire caused havoc a few weeks before. Product manager of STA UK, Daniel Pawlyn also donated a cheque of R1000 towards this worthy cause. Baz Bus together with Ferdinand's Tours then entertained the children with the magician, gifts of stationery and of course ice-cream to end a hot summers day!
The next day saw entertainment of a different nature. After collecting our agents and fitting them with different colour Baz Bus T-shirts we transported them down to Camps Bay beach for some fun beach activities. Guests enjoyed Giant Foosball, action cricket & beach volleyball. With all eyes on the weather, we managed to sneak in lunch and a few hilarious games before the heavens opened and we had to run for cover. Although plans for Table Mountain had to be put on hold for yet another year, some good laughs were had at the ice skating rink with everyone trying their best to keep their balance.
The day didn't end just yet, christening Ferdinand's brand new pub, 'Hectic on Hope', we had still more great events planned. The band African Fiesta welcomed everyone with some great African rhythm, whilst everyone grabbed their bag of supper. Backpackers from all over town joined in the fun and also stood a chance to win thousands of Rands worth of prizes offered by our agents. With free flowing punch and prizes to boot, there was still another surprise in store - a visit from a world-renowned superstar, Elvis!
The day just didn't seem to end, with party animals' still going till the wee hours of the morning. Of course it would never have all come together without a lot of help! Our thanks go to; Ferdinand and his staff for assisting us with transport to the venues and working through the night to ensure the bar was ready for the big night. Also, to Andre from the Backpacker Bus for assisting with transport, to Yael & Jon for helping with the knockout punch and to Warren our MC.
Of course a BIG thank you to all our agents who have supported Baz Bus and a special thanks to those that so generously offered prizes for our backpacker party. In particular, Tracy & Mike from Wagon Trails for their very generous Vic Falls & Chobe 7-day safari and 4-day Kruger Park safari. Many thanks also go to Terry Tselane from Gauteng Tourism, Daniel Pawlyn from STA UK and Collett Boysen from STA Jhb - thank you for joining us! To all the backpackers, without whom we would not have been here, thank you for choosing Baz Bus, and to all Baz Bus staff, well done guys - you did it!
We hope the year leading to our next birthday is a great one for you all. Thank you in sharing ours with us!
